Wisteria is long-lived and eventually becomes a large, structural plant - best given a strong pergola, substantial fence, or purpose-built support. Full sun. Well-drained soil. Deep watering through summer. Prune twice yearly: once in summer (cut back new growth to 5-6 leaves after flowering) and once in late winter (cut back to 2-3 buds). This two-stage pruning is what produces the spectacular flower display each spring.
